The Hummer brand is very popular among connoisseurs of brutal and full-fledged SUVs, but it is the “first model” - the Hummer H1 - that is most popular among lovers of collecting cars.

Having appeared in 1992, the Hummer H1 immediately made a splash, having managed to become a "legend" during his lifetime. And this means that it will be a sin not to remember what this formidable car was.

The Hummer H1 SUV is built on the basis of the M998 Humvee army multipurpose armored car, created by AM General, which, in fact, offered the market a civilian version of its brainchild.

Outwardly, the Hummer H1 is as similar as possible to the military version, so the look of the SUV is very serious, aggressive and brutal. In addition, chrome trim elements, decorative wheels and civilian body paint gave the car an elitism, making it a full-fledged "American" dream for most of the male population of the planet.

The length of the Hummer H1 SUV is 4686 mm, the width fits into the frame of 2197 mm, and the height reaches the 1905 mm mark. The wheelbase of the Hammer H1 is 3302 mm, the minimum ground clearance (ground clearance) is 406 mm, and the front and rear track are 1819 mm. The curb weight of the SUV in the basic configuration does not exceed 4671 kg.

The desire of the developer to preserve the off-road qualities of the Hummer H1 as much as possible was reflected in the comfort of passengers. The interior of an SUV clearly cannot be called comfortable, and in terms of design, it has not gone far from the external appearance, offering a strict interior design concept. However, if we compare it with the army M998 Humvee, then the Hummer H1 is noticeably more attractive and much more comfortable, so everything that was possible within this body was made by the manufacturer for its customers.

Specifications. During the release of the Hummer H1 SUV, six power plants managed to visit under its hood, among which there was only one gasoline engine:

  • The Vortec family engine had 8 cylinders V-arrangement with a total displacement of 5.7 liters. The gasoline engine was capable of developing up to 190 hp. maximum power, about 407 Nm of torque and was aggregated with a 4-band "automatic" GM 4L80-E.
  • The younger "diesel" with 8 cylinders of a V-shaped arrangement had a working volume of 6.2 liters, which allowed it to produce about 150 hp. power, as well as no more than 340 Nm of torque.
  • The older engine received a volume of 6.5 liters, which increased its output to 170 hp. and allowed to develop about 394 Nm of torque. Later, the 6.5-liter "diesel" was modified, adding a new turbine, and as a result, its peak power increased to around 190 hp, and the upper limit of torque increased to 528 Nm.
  • There was another 6.5-liter diesel engine belonging to the Optimizer family in the line of engines for the Hammer H1. Its peak power reached 205 hp, and the torque at its maximum rested on the bar of 597 Nm.
  • The most powerful power unit of the legendary SUV was the Duramax Turbo Diesel turbodiesel, capable of developing 300 hp. power and about 705 Nm of torque.

Note that the junior "diesel" was aggregated with a 3-band "automatic" 3L80, and the "top" engine received a 5-band automatic transmission Allison 1000 to help. All other engines were equipped with a 4-band "automatic" GM 4L80-E.

The Hummer H1 SUV is built on a frame chassis with 5 steel cross members. Aluminum was actively used in the design of the body panels, and some of the cars were produced with a carbon fiber hood, which in total made it possible to significantly reduce the weight of the SUV in comparison with the army donor. The front part of the Hummer H1 SUV is supported by a spring suspension with two A-arms and hydraulic shock absorbers. At the rear, the exact same layout is used, but with slightly modified settings for the stiffness of the shock absorbers and springs. On all four wheels, the Americans installed hydraulic disc brakes, the steering of the SUV was supplemented by a Saginaw hydraulic booster.

The Hummer H1 is a full-fledged SUV with a permanent all-wheel drive system that includes a New Venture Gear 242 dual-mode transfer case, rear axle lock and wheel gears.

The release of the Hammer H1 started in 1992, when 316 copies rolled off the assembly line, which were sold to the garages of American celebrities, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, George Lucas, Sylvester Stallone, Andre Agassi and other movie and sports stars. The Hummer H1 model was produced until 2006, after which it was finally ousted from the market by the Hummer H2 SUV.

Price. In Russia, the Hammer H1 was not officially sold and came to our country only from the USA in the form of used cars. The price for Hummer H1 in Russia fluctuates in a significant range (from two to ~ ten million rubles) and depends on many factors (year of manufacture, condition / mileage, equipment / engine, body type).
