The open version of the model made its debut at the end of November 2017 at the Los Angeles International Auto Show (along with the coupe of the same name that underwent restyling), and its appearance was preceded by a series of concepts, the first of which, called the i8 Spyder, was presented back in 2012 at Beijing Motor Show.

Outside, the BMW i8 Roadster looks no less impressive, attractive and dynamic than its closed "brother", and it can be recognized by the fabric roof, which is folded by means of an electric drive in just 15 seconds (and this operation can be done at speeds up to 50 km / h) ...

In terms of dimensions, the BMW i8 roadster repeats the "donor": it is 4689 mm long, 1942 mm wide, and 1291 mm high. The wheelbase of the car is 2800 mm, and its ground clearance is 117 mm.

When loaded, the two-door weighs 1595 kg.

Inside, the open model is practically no different from the coupe of the same name - an attractive design, "impregnated" with sports notes, impeccable ergonomics, high-quality finishing materials and an excellent level of assembly.

Here are just a roadster interior has a strictly two-seater layout, with bucket-shaped front seats, equipped with electric adjustments and heating (the symbolic rear seats here replaces the vertical compartment for the fabric top).

In terms of practicality, the BMW i8 is not doing well, even despite the presence of two trunks: the front compartment, located under the wardrobe trunk, holds 100 liters of luggage, and the rear one - 88 liters (the reason for this is the redesigned engine compartment cover).

The open version of the "ah-eight" is equipped with the same "set of power units" as on the coupe of the same name - it includes a 143-horsepower electric motor (250 Nm of torque), which supplies traction to the front wheels by means of 2- a stepped automatic transmission, and a 1.5-liter gasoline turbocharged "three", which develops 231 hp. and 320 Nm (and transmits them to the rear axle through a 6-band "automatic").

As standard, the car is equipped with a traction lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 11.6 kW * h, which provides it with 53 km of run on pure electricity, which takes 2.4 hours to recharge up to 80% (from a quick charger - 2 hours).

The roadster accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h after 4.6 seconds, gains a maximum of 250 km / h, and in the combined cycle “digests” 2.1 liters of fuel for every “hundred” of run (its total range reaches 440 km).

From a constructive point of view, the BMW i8 Roadster repeats the coupe of the same name: the modular "DriveLife" chassis with almost perfect weight distribution, independent front double wishbones and rear five-wishbones (with adaptive electronic shock absorbers), electric power steering and disc brakes on all wheels.

In the Russian market, the BMW i8 roadster in 2018 is sold at a price of 11,150,000 rubles.

The basic configuration of the two-door includes: six airbags, 20-inch wheels, dual-zone climate control, ABS, ESP, heated and electrically adjustable seats, dynamic cruise control, blind spot monitoring, full LED optics, a virtual instrument cluster, a multimedia complex and much other.
