Toyota Auris is a front-wheel drive "small family car" (aka the "C" segment by European standards), provided in two five-door body solutions: a hatchback and a station wagon (Touring Sports) ...

It is focused primarily on young people leading an active lifestyle, but it is able to satisfy the needs of a “motley” target audience ...

The second generation of the five-door was presented to the public in the fall of 2012 (at the International Paris Auto Show) - compared to its predecessor, the car has seriously changed in terms of design, slightly enlarged in size, received a modernized technical "filling" and acquired modern electronic systems.

In March 2015, a restyled car made its debut at a motor show in Geneva, which slightly tweaked its appearance (mainly on the "front" side), updated the infotainment complex, "prescribed" new engines under the hood and expanded the list of available options.

The Toyota Auris of the second incarnation looks attractive, fresh and energetic - an evil "face" with slanting headlights and a "puffy" bumper, a tightly knit and dynamic silhouette with playful sidewalls, short overhangs and a sloping roof, frying stern with intricate lanterns and a raised bumper.

In general, the car does not stand out in anything special against the background of competitors, but it attracts the eye in the city traffic.

In terms of its dimensions, the second generation Auris corresponds to the standards of the golf class: 4330 mm in length, 1760 mm in width and 1475 mm in height (the Touring Sports station wagon is 265 mm longer and 10 mm higher). The wheelbase is 2,600 mm at the five-door, and its ground clearance is 140 mm.

The "combat" weight of the vehicle ranges from 1190 to 1335 kg (depending on the version).

The "second" Toyota Auris has a nice, modern and ergonomically thought-out interior.

A plump multifunctional steering wheel with a three-spoke rim and tides, a laconic and easy-to-read instrument cluster, an asymmetric center console with a 7-inch media center screen and a stylish air conditioning unit - in terms of design, the interior of the car does not cause any complaints.

He has no problems with the quality of finishing materials, and with the level of performance (all panels are carefully fitted to each other).

By default, five-door "apartments" have a five-seater layout - an adequate supply of free space is provided here for all riders, without exception. At the front, the car is equipped with comfortable seats with developed lateral support, wide adjustment intervals and padding that is optimal in terms of density, and at the rear - a comfortable sofa with a folding armrest in the center.

"Auris" of the second generation can boast of a luggage rack, which is quite good by the standards of its class. The hatchback's cargo compartment is capable of absorbing from 360 to 1199 liters of luggage, and the station wagon - from 530 to 1658 liters. A spare wheel and a set of tools are hidden in an underground niche near the car.

A wide range of modifications is offered for the second "release" of Toyota Auris:

  • The petrol versions are powered by four-cylinder naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines with a working volume of 1.2-1.6 liters with a vertical layout, distributed fuel injection, variable valve timing and a 16-valve DOHC timing belt, which develop 99-132 horsepower and 128-185 Nm of torque.
  • Diesel versions are equipped with in-line "fours" for 1.4-1.6 liters with turbocharging and battery "power", producing 90-112 hp. and 205-270 Nm of rotational potential.
  • The hybrid variant has a 1.8-liter gasoline unit and an electric motor in its arsenal, which together generate 136 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 142 Nm of peak thrust at 4000 rpm.

By default, all motors are combined with a 6-speed "manual" and front-wheel drive transmission, with the exception of the hybrid installation - it relies on the e-CVT variator. For a surcharge, petrol "fours" with a capacity of 116 and 132 hp. can be docked with a stepless CVT.

From a place to the first "hundred", the five-door is accelerated in 10-13.2 seconds, and the maximum gains 175-200 km / h.

Gasoline modifications of the car "digest" 4.6-5.9 liters of fuel for every 100 km in the combined cycle, diesel - 3.9-4.1 liters, and the hybrid version - 3.5 liters.

Toyota Auris of the second generation is based on the front-wheel drive platform "Toyota New MC" with a transverse arrangement of the power unit and a body, the power structure of which largely consists of high-strength steel.

In the front, the car has an independent MacPherson-type suspension, and the layout of the rear axle depends on the version: the versions with 1.3-liter petrol and 1.4-liter diesel engines are equipped with a semi-independent torsion beam, and the rest are equipped with an independent double lever.

"Japanese" has rack and pinion steering with electric booster and braking system with disc devices on four wheels (front - with ventilation) and ABS with EBD.

In the Russian market, sales of Toyota Auris of the second incarnation were curtailed in January 2016, and in European countries (more precisely, in Germany) in 2018 it is sold at a price of 18,790 euros for a hatchback and from 19,990 euros for a station wagon (~ 1.42 mln. and 1.51 million rubles, respectively).

In the starting configuration, the car has: six airbags, air conditioning, ABS, EBD, 16-inch steel wheels, power windows, heated front seats, an audio system, electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors, ESP, on-board computer and other equipment.
