At the end of 2004, the American automaker replenished the Chevrolet Cobalt family with a "charged" version called SS (Super Sport), and in two body solutions at once - a sedan and a coupe. Already in 2005, this car, after a small modernization (following its results, “prescribing” a new engine under its hood) changed the status of a “prototype” to a “production model”, and in 2008 it underwent another update - this time it was slightly transformed visually and “Armed” with a more productive “heart”. The commercial production of the car continued until 2010.

Outside, the Chevrolet Cobalt SS gives out little of its "hot" essence - it can be identified only by the "lip" on the front bumper, large wheel disks measuring 17-18 inches, a wing on the trunk lid and "SS" nameplates around the body.

The "charged" version of "Cobalt" is available in several body types - a four-door sedan and a two-door coupe.

The length of the car is 4580-4585 mm, its height does not exceed 1410-1450 mm, and the width and size of the wheel base are 1725 mm and 2624 mm, respectively.

The interior of the Chevrolet Cobalt SS is distinguished by sporty front seats with pronounced lateral bolsters, silver metal-like decor on the front panel, a sports steering wheel and contrasting inserts.

Otherwise, it is identical to the decoration of the “civilian” model - a calm design, convenient basing of the main controls, a five-seat layout and a 394-liter trunk (in both body types).

On the "heated" Chevrolet Cobalt, you can find three petrol four-cylinder engines, coupled with a 5-speed "mechanics" or 4-speed "automatic" and front-wheel drive. The car was completed with:

  • atmospheric unit with a volume of 2.4 liters, developing 174 "horses" and 221 Nm of peak thrust,
  • 2.0-liter engine with a displacement supercharger, producing 205 "mares" and 271 Nm,
  • as well as a 2.0-liter turbocharged "heart" with 260 horsepower and 353 Nm.

Depending on the modification, the maximum capabilities of the Cobalt SS are at 208-254 km / h, and the starting spurt to 60 mph (96.5 km / h) takes no more than 5.5-7.1 seconds.

The technical "stuffing" of the Chevrolet Cobalt SS inherited from the standard "brother" - the front-wheel drive platform "Delta", independent front suspension with McPherson struts, semi-independent rear architecture on coupled trailing arms and a rack and pinion steering gear with hydraulic booster.
The signs of the American "lighter" include disc brakes on all wheels (front with 4-piston Brembo calipers and ventilation) with ABS and EBD and a chassis with more sporty settings.

In the US secondary market, you can buy a "charged" Chevrolet Cobalt in 2016 at a price of $ 3,000 (~ 190 thousand rubles at the current exchange rate), but it is rather difficult to find it in Russia.
The functionality of the car combines four airbags, ABS, EBD, air conditioning, cruise control, leather steering wheel, power windows, on-board computer, audio system and much more.
